Born in 1974 in Seoul, Elly Cho is a visual artist based in New York and Seoul. She holds a BA and MFA from The Slade School of Fine Art and recently earned an MA from Columbia University. After completing her MFA, she taught various visual art practice and theory courses at universities and colleges for seven years in Korea. She is currently a lecturer at the Graduate School of Art at Hongik University in Seoul. Her work explores the interplay between art, the environment, and the viewer, which she explores with various media. She has exhibited internationally and her works are included in major collections such as the Seoul Municipal Museum and the Musée Cantonale des Beaux-Arts du Valais in Switzerland. She most recently won ‘Art Takes Time Square’ presented by Artists Wanted and the Time Square Alliance, where she exhibited her video work across over 50 electronic screens and billboards in Times Square, New York City. She has been selected to show at the annual juried exhibition, ‘Nature’s Tempo’ at the gallery Korea, Korean Cultural Services, New York; ‘Going Green’ at Crossing Art Gallery in conjunction with Queens Art Express in New York; the AHL Foundation residency in New York; and ‘Ways of Seeing’ at the 3-D sculpture park residency in Verbier, Switzerland. Her special projects also include a major eco-art project sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan City.
